Oozes!  Oodles more oozes, for your group to canoodle.

I must admit, this is perhaps my favorite type of beastie as a designer, and my most feared as a player.  They can be damn near anything, really, with a huge variety of possible abilities.  They can be introduced anywhere, in any environment.  Whether they drop on you without you noticing, or if they bar the entire passage with their translucent girth, oozes are just plain awesome, period.

A good GM can make any kind of ooze formidable, creepy, and genuinely scary to even the most seasoned PC.

Ooze Sneak Preview

Here's a taste of the sorts of new monsters that are candidates for inclusion in Volume 3 as a result of this stretch goal falling.  Until I get under the hood with all of this in earnest, I can't promise that everything is going to make it, but here's what I'm tinkering with as of now.

Now is a good time to remind everyone that I intend every custom monster to come packed not only with 4 full statblocks, but also with adventure hooks / introduction ideas to help a time-cinched GM deploy these beasties with minimal effort and maximum impact.

  • Funary Ooze
  • Bloodcrust Ooze
  • Fungal Pudding
  • Tapestry Ooze
  • Spinal Jelly
  • Sporeslime
  • Briarslime
  • Mossy Ichor
  • Cleanslate Flower
  • Vilegel
  • Stoneslime
  • Diredrizzle
  • Miremuck
  • Thorngel

5E Questions

In comments and DMs, I've gotten some feedback that the Skelettin that's available on RPGnow as a free preview is not a terrific example of 5E crunch.

That's accurate; I have and will continue to refine my approach to 5E conversion and I've lots of lessons learned since I adapted the Skelettin that's out there right now.

Since it makes sense to have a better, real example of what 5E backers might reasonably expect for their pledge dollar, I've committed to retooling the 5E Skelettin so it's more in line with what the Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm output is going to be.

I'd intended to complete that rework this week, but a combination of real life work and my striving to meet a self-imposed deadline finishing maps for Dark Obelisk 2 has left me little time unfortunately to clean up our favorite two-headed skeleton giant.

Next week for sure, and I'll post an update alongside the revised RPGnow file.  That way, current or prospective 5E backers can get a better flavor of what they're in store for.

Additional Crunch Add-Ons
over 6 years ago – Thu, Oct 19, 2017 at 02:34:03 PM

I had a quiet moment so I figured I'd make something explicit that I may only have had in the campaign description: this Kickstarter is about a boatload of crunch resources for your gaming needs.

So it stands to reason that you may also be interested in character (PC or NPC) crunch.

As part of this campaign, you'll have the chance to Add-On some of my other crunch-focused books, at a reduced price.

Totally your call, and you can just wait until the campaign wraps up and the BackerKit survey, but just so you're aware, here are the options.

Add-On Crunch from Other Products

  • Dark Obelisk 1 Character Compendium (Pathfinder only): $20 PDF, $35 hardcover & PDF. This book of 419 pregenerated characters.
  • Dark Obelisk 2 Character Compendium (Pathfinder only): $20 PDF, $35 hardcover & PDF. The upcoming book of ~400 pregenerated characters as described in this KS campaign
  • Dark Obelisk 2 Villainous Compendium (Pathfinder only): $20 PDF, $35 hardcover & PDF. Upcoming book of 10-50 villains and henchmen and monstrous characters, as described in this KS campaign.

13k Stretch Goal Unlocked

Unlocked!

Additional Monsters: Aberrations.  At least 5 additional monsters of the Aberrations type.

Type

Not sure if I mentioned this, but I do recognize the differences between Pathfinder and 5E in terms of what Types of monsters each system formally recognizes.  My use of Types in the Stretch Goal descriptions reflects the PFRPG nomenclature, which maps roughly to 5E in a somewhat straightforward manner.

Congrats to everyone for helping make Volume 3 even more awesome!
