Production Update: Volume 5 PDFs Sent
over 4 years ago – Tue, Oct 22, 2019 at 03:12:57 AM

Just a quick note that everyone entitled to the Pathfinder edition should now have copies from DriveThruRPG for volumes 1-5 in their inbox.  Some users had reported missing prior volumes, so I just resent 1-4 as well.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm back to laying out Book 6.  :)

Timing-wise, I am targeting to finish by November 15th, but I'm a full week ahead of that schedule in terms of throughput.

Once I've finished Volume 6, it will take me about 1-2 days to copy/paste layout into the Abridged Edition, and then it's full-steam on the 5E books.

Production Update: Oct 18 2019
over 4 years ago – Sat, Oct 19, 2019 at 02:08:10 AM

Huge progress over the last few weeks, and lots to report, so I'll get right to it.

Volume 5 Complete

ABRE Volume 5 for Pathfinder was finished yesterday.  PDF fulfillment should commence by Monday.

Hardcover version is in printer review now.

Volumes 3-4 Hardcover Proofs

These shipped last week, so I should get them any day now.  Once I approve, then the hardcovers will be published as well.

New Freebie: Digital Resource File

One of the backers for the P2E Bestiary requested a digital file version of the monster data, with references to volume/page numbers of the content in print/PDF.

I can see this being an extraordinarily useful resource, and I already have it since that's how I track and manage everything anyway, so I will make it available following completion of the Bestiary itself.

All backers will receive the Digital Resource File for FREE in the format that you're already entitled to the PDF of.  So if you are owed the 5E edition of the PDF and/or hardcovers, you'll get the 5E Digital Resource File, etc.

Think of it as a sortable and filterable Master Index with all the vital info you might want quickly available: 6,400 statblocks in an Excel file you can manipulate to your heart's content.  :)

The PDFs for Volumes 1-3 for Pathfinder have gone out to everyone entitled to them.  There are some folks who may not have completed the BackerKit survey; if you are entitled to these and haven't yet received a notification from DriveThruRPG, please message me and I will make sure you get what you are owed.

Production Update

I'm over 80% finished Volume 4; should complete that this week.

Big Update: P1E Volume 3, P2E KS, Free P2E Sample PDF

P1E Volume 3 Published

Joining Volume 1 and Volume 2, Volume 3 of the Pathfinder version of Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm has been published.  I'm awaiting the hardcopy proof to publish the hardcover version.  PDF fulfillment will take place shortly.  Halfway there!  I'm also already 33% through Volume 4 and hope to complete that by end of September.

P2E KS

There's a new Kickstarter: Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm for Pathfinder Second Edition.

Some of you (especially those of you who have asked for this!) will be thrilled with this.  Some, who are already frustrated by the delay with this project. may be more frustrated, particularly if you have no interest in P2E or intention of investigating it.

In very succinct terms, this won't delay the Pathfinder First Edition or 5E versions of ABRE.

If the P2E KS is successful, I will be laying out the 5E and P2E versions simultaneously, and publishing them simultaneously as well.  I've actually tested this, and the overhead involved in doing both at the same time is only 10-20% more than doing 5E alone.

Given feedback from what's been published thus far, I tried to be very explicit in this KS as to the content that's planned, so folks won't be disappointed with the results.

I launched this, knowing that it will possibly frustrate some backers who have been patiently waiting for the 5E version, and who have zero interest whatsoever in the P1E or P2E version.  I always try to balance the requests of some backers with the frustration of others, and you will come to your own individual conclusion as to whether I've struck the right balance.  I will continue, as I've been doing, to produce at as quick a rate as I'm physically capable of.  2,100 pages in about 2 months isn't half bad, but I realize I have a lot more in front of me yet.

Existing ABRE Backers: Who Gets What

I tried to strike a balance here between recognizing the enormity of confidence, and patience, that's been placed in me from current backers, and struggling as well to not lose money with hardcover fulfillments, now that I have a solid sense of what the print costs are likely to be.

Here's what I came up with.

  • If you are entitled to a PDF of the Pathfinder First Edition or 5E version of ABR, you may elect instead to swap it out for the Pathfinder Second Edition version at no additional cost.  Just shoot me an email, comment, DM, carrier pigeon, etc. if you want to swap your P1E for P2E.  (You keep any and all P1E PDFs that I've already fulfilled to you gratis.)
  • If you are entitled to a hardcopy of the Pathfinder First Edition or 5E version of ABR, you may elect instead to swap it out for the Pathfinder Second Edition version at no additional cost.  I'll check in with you before I ship the P1E books once they're ready to send to make sure of your preference.
  • If you are entitled to any version or edition of the ABR, and do not want to swap what you're already entitled to, you may also elect to pledge at a discounted rate to get the Pathfinder Second Edition version as well.
