Production Update: 5E Conversion, Incarnae, and MOA
over 5 years ago – Wed, Dec 12, 2018 at 09:19:32 AM

Happy Holidays!

Hi all!  Hope everyone is wrapping up work, reports, finals, or whatever else stands in between you and family, friends, and vacation over the winter break... whatever that happens to mean for you in your neck of the woods.

I myself am looking forward to some serious heads-down IGS work time, which I'll use to complete the Villainous Compendium and get major progress with Druid Enclave, thus wrapping up the pipeline so I can focus full-force on layout and publication of Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm in the new year.

5E Conversion

I'm effectively done with this until I start layout of the 5E edition.  So that's awesome.

Incarnae & Gauntlets & Gaslight

As mentioned, there's a Kickstarter which intends to expand the Incarnae of Aquilae concept that was unlocked as part of the ABR/E campaign.  IOA was envisioned as a component of a gothic horror steampunk kind of approach to things so this is a natural fulfillment of the vision.

As ABR/E backers, you are already slated to receive all digital rewards for this campaign for free, automatically; no pledge or anything is required.  Sit back and enjoy the extra content as it accumulates.  This in no way impacts the timeline for developing and publishing what you're owed; it simply tacks on more free stuff afterwards.

Monsters of Aquilae

Many of you are entitled to this, and with so much discussion on the core ABR/E books, I didn't want you to lose faith.  As of last night, I have 579 monsters identified to various degrees of detail.

Will 579 monsters fit into a single book?  No.  No, they will not.  Not by a long shot.

Given the already-behind nature of things, I'm inclined to just pick my favorites and pack them into the MOA book.  Just wanted to provide transparency as to where things stand: short version is that I'll be spoiled for choice in arranging a single book!

Update: Incarnae of Aquilae
over 5 years ago – Thu, Nov 29, 2018 at 04:44:41 PM

Executive Summary

  • Incarnae of Aquilae is launching soon as a separate Kickstarter.
  • You will automatically receive all digital rewards associated with that KS for free.
  • No pledge or action is necessary.

Details

As you may recall, the Incarnae of Aquilae concept was unlocked as part of the original ABR kickstarter. I've gotten plenty of questions and enthusiasm about this, and I appreciate your patience as I have been working on ideas in the background of actually, you know, writing and composing. :)

Now that I've finished the AA books and the Character Compendium 2, as I approach finishing the Villainous Compendium, and most importantly as I have finished the crunch generation for the ABRE bestiary itself, I want to queue up the next commitment and make it great.

Plus, I have a hunch there just might be a bit of enthusiasm for a gothic horror steampunk approach to forging/crafting and monsters.

So, short and sweet, do nothing, sit back, and continue your patience... and be rewarded with awesome.

Production Update: Crunch Complete
over 5 years ago – Wed, Nov 28, 2018 at 12:22:21 PM

Production Update

All PFRPG crunch has been generated. As with everything else I do, it has ended up being even larger than anticipated.

A total of 1,400 monsters. (Original estimate/target was 1,200.)

That's 5,600 statblocks.

All in all, it weighs in at 109 MB of text. TEXT.

Estimated layout is 2,800-4,000 pages across 6 massive tomes. The huge variance n that range is based on huge differences in detail (e.g., 5E edition will likely end up being closer to 3,000; PFRPG will be closer to 3,500+).

What Does "Crunch Complete" Mean?

All Pathfinder "crunch" (that is, the complete statblock) is created. It has but to be laid out, which is the easy (and quicker) part.

Cleanup

I have to go through the gigantic list one more time to clean things up and to validate; this may result in the final # of beasties going up slightly. That will be complete by end of this week.

Next Steps

Next step is to punch everything in and convert it into 5E format. I estimate that should take no longer than a month, total, at which point I will be completely ready to lay everything out.

As a side note, this conversion to 5E will also result in conversion to S&W / OSRIC, which I know a small subset of you are eager for as well.

Production Update: November 20th; Incarnae and Monsters of Aquilae Details
over 5 years ago – Tue, Nov 20, 2018 at 09:30:39 PM

Pipeline Update

About 80% through the content-pass for the Villainous Compendium book, and itching to get started mapping for that and Druid Enclave.  Still hoping that all means that I'll be able to full-focus on Aquilae: Bestiary of the Realm in January.

Production Update

I'm thrilled to report that I'm finished generating the crunch for all of the promised monsters in the expanded bestiary book.  That's 1,200 monsters, or 4,800 complete statblocks.  A titanic amount of work, completed.

But.  I have more.  In all, about 1,350 will make it into the books.  I'll finish the remaining ones off by end of month.

Then, it's on to the crunch conversion to 5E; I plan to complete that by Christmas, no later.

Incarnae of Aquilae Update

Some of my more patient backers have asked for more information about this.  If you'll recall, Incarnae was unlocked as a Stretch Goal, and the idea was that Incarnae are kind of like golem/elementals, with more than a little bit of Frankenstein's Monster mixed into the forging.  Each Incarna is like a physical manifestation of a feeling or abstract concept, like Regret.

The short version is that Incarnae is going to be kind of like a Gothic Horror Steampunk set of rules.  I'll go into LOTS more detail once I've finished the crunch for the main Bestiary.  :)

I've done some semi-informal polls of many backers, and there's a lot of excitement about what I have in mind.  Stay tuned!

Monsters of Aquilae

Very rudimentary information for lots of monsters listed out and outlined.  "Lots" meaning... well, I don't want to oversell it, but the original thought of like 50 monsters is probably on the very low end of things.  More to come!

General Thanks

For us here in the US, it's nearly Thanksgiving. Although I'm NOT thankful for the bout of stomach bug that is passing through various family members, I am, as always, very thankful indeed for all of my backers.

Your patience and commitment and confidence is ever so close to being rewarded beyond words of explanation and gratitude, and I cannot wait to hear your thoughts once that happens.

Thank you.

over 5 years ago – Tue, Nov 06, 2018 at 03:03:35 PM

Continuing to work the pipeline of books, and have published a ton of stuff recently. Although I am--as I always am!--behind schedule, I could not be prouder of Artifacts & Artifice and the Character Compendium 2.

As promised, I have assembled discounts for existing backers, both as a thank-you for your patience, and as a fringe benefit of helping support my work. Thank you again for your support, confidence, feedback, and above all, your patience!

The discounts available via the below are all 25-33% off of published retail prices.
